There are many ways to make decoration baskets and trays at home, with very cheap materials. One of the ways to do them is by taking advantage of old magazines. The method is very simple, the paper is cut into strips, twisted and formed with spiral twisted paper snakes. These spiral circles are joined to form the type of container you want. The circles can be painted all together, in a single tone, or painted one by one and achieve multi-colored effects.
These strips of paper can also be purchased, thus choosing the thickness and color. You have to go to a craft store that has a good Twisted Paper dealer and buy the necessary quantities per meter. With this material you can carry out all kinds of jobs, from the complete baskets, braiding them and working the paper cords together or using this twisted paper for the handle, as is done with paper bags.
This twisted paper is extremely resistant, making it perfect for crafts as they will be very useful and the baskets can be used for many purposes. Let’s see how to make, as an example, a small paper basket for clothespins.
We will start by creating strips of paper from used magazines. To give them the spiral shape we will use transparent vinyl glue or paper glue. Both materials work, so we will choose the one that is easier for us to work with. After having made different spirals, in different sizes, we join them together to create a rectangle for the base and the walls, as high as we want.
Once the basket is made, we apply a layer of white glue to harden it. This glue, once it dries, is completely transparent. But the basket will be much harder and will withstand the small splashes that you may suffer when doing the laundry.
With the basket already made, we can choose to color it or leave it as is. The color of the magazine will give it its grace and personality. Finally, we create the handle with purchased twisted paper. We make a small hole in each side of the basket and we pass the twisted paper through the hole, making a knot to prevent it from coming out again. And we already have our original and different basket for the clothespins.
